چکیده

Objectives The appropriate strategy for enteral feeding in critically ill patients still remains controversial. Therefore, we conducted this meta-analysis to compare the effect of intermittent versus continuous method patients. Methods Electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane Library were searched up April 10th, 2023 randomized controlled trials evaluating primary outcomes intolerances, diarrhea, vomiting, distension, constipation, gastric retention, aspiration pneumonia. secondary mortality intensive care unit (ICU), length stay ICU, achievement nutritional goal. Results Thirteen studies with a total 884 analyzed meta-analysis. Overall, use was associated higher incidence diarrhea (OR 1.66, 95%CI 1.13 2.43, I 2 = 16%) distension 2.29, 1.16 4.51, 0%), lower constipation 0.58, 0.37 0.90, longer ICU (MD 1.09, 0.53 1.64, 0%). Moreover, no significant difference identified other outcome measures. Conclusion In patients, implementation stay, but occurrence constipation. Nevertheless, absence sufficient high-quality clinical precludes any definitive conclusions regarding optimal approach population. There is an imperative need more further assess efficacy two strategies.

Enteral versus parenteral nutrition in critically ill patients: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND Enteral nutrition (EN) is recommended as the preferred route for early nutrition therapy in critically ill adults over parenteral nutrition (PN). A recent large randomized controlled trial (RCT) showed no outcome differences between the two routes. The objective of this systematic review was to evaluate the effect of the route of nutrition (EN versus PN) on clinical outcomes of criti...

Underfeeding versus full enteral feeding in critically ill patients with acute respiratory failure: a systematic review with meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

INTRODUCTION Although guidelines emphasize that the provision of enteral nutrition (EN) should be as close as the patient's needs, prospective studies question this strategy. OBJECTIVE To compare the effect of two EN strategies (underfeeding versus full-feeding) on ICU and overall mortality (hospital mortality or 60-day mortality) and length of stay (LOS), duration of mechanical ventilation (...

Initial energy supplementation in critically ill patients receiving enteral nutrition: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Here we systematically reviewed and quantitatively analyzed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to compare the important initial outcomes of critically ill adults receiving low- and highenergy enteral nutrition. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN RCTs comparing low- and high-energy supplementation in critically ill adults receiving enteral nutrition admitted to the intensive c...

Insulin therapy for critically ill hospitalized patients: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND Hyperglycemia is common in critically ill hospitalized patients, and it is associated with adverse outcomes, including increased mortality. The objective of this meta-analysis was to determine the effect of insulin therapy initiated during hospitalization on mortality in adult patients with a critical illness. METHODS An electronic search in the English-language articles of MEDLINE...

Dexmedetomidine as a Sedative Agent in Critically Ill Patients: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

INTRODUCTION The effect of dexmedetomidine on length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay and time to extubation is still unclear. MATERIALS AND METHODS Pertinent studies were independently searched in BioMedCentral, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of clinical trials (updated February first 2013). Randomized studies (dexmedetomidine versus any comparator) were included if inclu...
